Message from the Board

Welcome to the latest edition of our Wood Council newsletter. I want to start by introducing two new members to the group - Permapine and IPPNZ.

With our industry taking a hiding in the media in recent months we recognised that Social Licence is an important focus for us going forward. To that end all 8 Wood Councils have started to work together to deliver a national strategy improve perception of our amazing
industry.

We are looking forward to the next event with Cameron Bagrie presenting to us on 31 August. This event was really well received last year so be in quick to book a spot.

Our processors are doing it tough with the housing boom running out of puff. Hopefully, the recently announced net migration of 65,000 people will encourage more housing starts. Our sawmillers and manufacturers have seen this all before and are a very resilient bunch.

We have just completed the latest planting survey and in excess of 3500ha will be established in our region for the 2023 season. However, the future looks uncertain with political tinkering creating nervousness in forest investment.

Preparation is well underway for the 2024 AWARDS NIGHT. We have confirmed the new Christchurch Convention Centre Te Pae for 2nd August 2024. A group of council members have had a tour of the facility and it looks fantastic. This event will be bigger and better than the 2022 version.

2024 Awards Night

We are excited to announce that next year's CWCWC Awards will be held at Christchurch's new Convention Centre Te Pae on Friday 2nd August 2024. Save this date so together we can recognise and celebrate excellence within our industries.

We encourage businesses to become involved in this event as it is important that we all share the vision to recognise skilled professionals, applaud them and create a desire to continue to lift the profile of the forestry and wood products industry in the Canterbury and West Coast regions.

We will be keeping you posted as details for the event unfold. In the meantime, if you would like to make any enquires regarding the awards please contact info@cwcwc.co.nz

CWCWC Fundraiser Update

110 Families Assisted

The money raised at the CWCWC Fundraising Event for Cyclone Gabrielle affected areas has been put to good use.

All funds provided for food vouchers to those in the Bay View/Esk Valley region that have been displaced i.e. yellow and red stickered. Many of which are having to pay rent for their current accommodation as well as mortgage and insurance on their existing property. The generous payment donated by CWCWC members was also matched by PaknSave which meant 110 families were able to be assisted.

Thank you again to all those members that contributed to this.
