Bay View Community Charitable Trust receives donation from South Island Foresters

Canterbury West Coast Wood Council (CWCWC) recently had a visit from Hawkes Bay Forestry Group (HBFG) Deputy Chair Matt Croft, to hear about Cyclone Gabrielle, and the HB Forestry Group response, and woody debris clean up operations.

This led to a donation from CWCWC to Bay View Community Charitable Trust. The trust was originally established for beautification of Bay View, and is now attracting funds and distributing these to displaced residents and helpers, after Cyclone Gabrielle.

“Every dollar donated goes into worthy hands” said Glenn Moir, Chair of CWCWC who visited Bay View today, “We wanted to make a donation that would land in hard working hands and provide real help, thankfully HBFG could make the match”.

Bay View Community Charitable Trust Chair and volunteer fireman Dave Wilson, hosted Glenn, and will match the funds to community need. The pair took a drive to see how homes, marae and agribusinesses have been affected in the area and describe 47 harrowing callouts the Bay View Brigade responded to during flooding.

Glenn lost his home in the Christchurch earthquake so found there was a lot in common, "We talked a lot about the emotional toll this had on our family and community". He said, "Others dug deep for us then. It is our turn to help”.

Dave reflected: “The event has brought our community together in many ways. Funds from many sources are being put to good use for our community, and we can certainly use more, there is still so much being done”. Dave Wilson dave@workbalancesolutions.co.nz
