from Body Loyalty

Hello Every Body,

It's been about a year now since I launched Body Loyalty into the world - the actual date is a bit debatable - and I have spent this year trying to figure out how to begin sharing a concept that is made up of everything I've ever learned and every experience I've ever had without just taking people through my whole life story. It has been a real challenge to figure out where to begin and how to bring people along. Finding what pieces are needed first to understand the next piece, or what assumptions I'm making that I need to make explicit.

I've been working hard to create something longer than a TikTok, more comprehensive than a blog post, that can serve as an introduction to Body Loyalty. I wanted something someone could hand a friend or client to explain what we talk about here in a simple, direct way.

So I made a brochure.

It's actually too long to be a brochure. I couldn't fit everything in. So it's a booklet. Available on the Body Loyalty Resources page, or download the pdf directly here. I don't even make you give me your email address for it, because I hate that. I just want these ideas to be as accessible as possible.

For us to be healthy, we need a lot more than diet and exercise. That's just your physical health. It also requires tending to your emotional health, your mental health, your social health, and probably a period of recovery as you address some of the harm you've experienced by not having your needs met to begin with. But there really isn't a professional who can help you figure out how to meet all those different facets of your health. We have to do that for ourselves, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves in.

My hope is that through the Body Loyalty method you can find some scaffolding, some screening tools, some destigmatizing, to support you as you learn how to meet all the aspects of your body's needs.
On the Blog

This month I've been talking the Muscles of Body Loyalty. These are the actions you take. The actual things you do for your health. There is SO MUCH advice about what kind of healthy behaviors are necessary, and so many con artists and predators looking to take advantage of that confusion with their Get Well Quick schemes. The truth is that you'll need different behaviors for different reasons at different times throughout your whole life. The thing that will work for you would be the worst thing for someone else, and the best thing for someone else could be the worst thing for you. To learn to take care of ourselves, we need to learn which behaviors will actually help us in our current circumstances, and how to practice them - and change them as necessary - without shame.

On TikTok

Every morning I make a TikTok based on what I'm thinking about for Body Loyalty. I've been treating it like my stand up open mic to figure out what people are responding to as I develop this philosophy. I'm sharing more of them on Instagram and YouTube now to spread those messages out to wherever the people are.

This month's most popular:

Coming up...

Over the last three months I've been taking you through the Body Loyalty Plan and introducing you to the tool that helps you figure out what health choices to put your time and energy into.

But, in my opinion, if you are talking self care in 2022 and you're not talking about the systems that govern our lives, you are just wasting everyone's time. We aren't in control of a lot of the forces that affect our health, and taking individual responsibility for things we can't change just makes shame.

How do we care for ourselves in systems that don't care for us?

We'll tackle that in September!
With love and loyalty,
