There was a time in my young life when I found myself in a very depressive state. I often thought my circumstances were always out of my control, which provoked me retreat into myself, causing anxiety, self-pity and viewing myself a s a victim. With these thoughts and perception I felt so alone, isolated in darkness, screaming internally for someone to see me and help me.
Until one day something happened. An unknown and unseen force shook me abruptly, awaking me from my hopeless state forcing me to see the beauty that did indeed encompass my life outside the darkness. I began to shake off the the dark fog that stuck to me like the heavy humidity of a southern August day. I slowly begun to take deeper breaths shedding the weight of melancholy that stuck to me like wet clothes. It was at this point I was able to see that I was anything but alone. I was surrounded by love and people who did want to help me, I just couldn’t see it through the thick cloud I carried. This was the beginning of a very long journey to appreciating life and taking control to begin creating and doing what I desired.
Without the family, friends and professionals in my life who guided me through those difficult times, I may not have made it nearly as far as I have today and I would probably be a completely different person. I also believe that without the support I would not have listened to the unseen forces and may have turned it into an even darker or ominous experience creating more fear and anxiety than I was already dealing with.
While healing is a journey for one, it does take a strong support system to survive it. If you are on or thinking of beginning the courageous and sedulous journey to heal yourself and reclaim your personal power, call upon those you trust that have your best and highest interests at heart. The ones who, when you are down, remind you of your strength and help you to keep going. If you need, like I have in my life, contact a mental health professional (counselor, therapist, etc.) to help guide you through the most difficult parts. We are in a time and place where you are no longer ostracized for seeking help, in fact we are beginning to commend each other for the strength it takes to heal, which is quite profound.
Never forget that at no time are you ever truly alone. There are people out there that love you and are willing to support you, even if you do not know them yet. Despite popular views, our world is full of compassionate human beings who would go out of their way to help another fellow soul, even in their lowest circumstances. No matter the choices one makes, when you are ready to heal and ask for help you will be surprised at how many are willing to support you. |
