NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2024

Canterbury West Coast Wood Council

Message from the Board

Thanks to all of our members for your amazing support of the awards.
The night was a huge success and truly celebrated the industry across our regions. Also, congratulations to all those who were nominated which in itself is recognition from your peers for your efforts. Our winners were spread across the West Coast and Canterbury and came from all parts of the supply chain.

I want to follow on from my speech on the night to encourage you all to be proud and stand up for the forest industry. We are all passionate about the industry but try to avoid conflict when it comes to forestry taking a hiding in the media. We do so much good by creating employment, improving soil, water and air quality, so let’s stand up against all the misinformation and try and get some facts out there to the person in the street who has a negative perception of forests and the industry that relies on them. We in the Wood Council are doing this with our engagement through both primary and secondary schools. A greater number of schools are engaging with Discover Forestry through Wood is Good and Big Day Out and we are trying to satisfy this growing demand.

Each visit was well supported by local industry representatives. They had a great time sharing their knowledge and engaging with the children. Thank you to all those businesses and people that helped out.
