February was a challenging month for all the wrong reasons. Instead of being challenged with new techniques and new books, I was challenged with supply chain issues. Last summer the manufacturer of the artificial leathers and suedes I use for many books went out of business, leaving no successor. I had enough material for current projects but I still have not found suitable replacements and I am running out of my inventory. Additionally, the paper mill that makes most of the paper I use has been completely out of everything I need since December, and the one ream I was able to find turned out to be mislabeled so once the sheets I have printed are completed, I will not be able to make more copies of Book Culture II, III, V, or Knowing Good and Evil till they restock. Fortunately, I have many other books in the works that use different paper.
Besides the supply issues, I am in full gear preparing for the Conclave in April. The MBS Newsletter was completed and should be delivered already or soon. My keepsakes are almost ready to send off, and my inventory for the book fair is rapidly growing. All that I have left to do is schedule the MBS traveling exhibit to be in Asheville for the Conclave and catalog the silent auction lots.
Because of all this, there are no new books to offer this month, though there are several in the works including the book of poetry Touching the Harp Strings, and three more volumes for the Book Culture series. One new item that will be available at the Booksby store soon is a boxed set of the first five Book Culture books. Sets will be available at $150. For my faithful customers who have purchased the books individually as they came out, empty boxes will be available for $25.
