RememberMemorial Day. A time to reflect. A time to remember. Borrowing from a previous Eye of the Beholder article ... For freedom-loving, patriotic Americans, not many things inspire us more than the gallantry and valor of our military heroes. Service and sacrifice are trademarks of the American soldier. May 29, 2023, is a day to pause and honor the fallen men and women who have paid the ultimate price for American freedom. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it was first observed in 1868 to honor those who had perished in the Civil War. This great day of honor continues today as a federal holiday. For many, it also provides a timely starting point for summer plans. It has typically been both for me. As I anxiously await the arrival of Memorial Day weekend to start my week off, I also set aside time to frame my mind properly. My fun-filled, summer plans and week of vacation would mean very little if not for America's protectors in the US military. Thank you to all fallen soldiers and their families. Freedom isn't free! |
